Is Your Office Building Maintenance Company Doing it’s Job

Many businesses hire outside cleaning companies to clean their offices, often for a variety of reasons. One reason is that their employees aren’t trained in how to clean or do not have available time to clean their own offices. Employees also may not know which cleaning products are best for specific areas such as restrooms. Being in the business, cleaning service companies can do all of these things, and they can provide valuable assistance to the businesses that hire them.

But no matter how hard you try to hire the right cleaning company for your business, you may find out later that the company isn’t as good as you originally thought. One of the signs you should look for is that they don’t arrive at your business on schedule, or worse yet, they don’t arrive at all.

You will be able to tell right away whether your cleaning service has shown up when they should have. Look for trash cans that have not been emptied, carpeted areas that have not been vacuumed, and bare floors that have not been swept or mopped.

It is very important that your cleaning service company cleans your bathrooms every day. If this isn’t done regularly it could become a health hazard for your clients and employees. And some cleaning companies only do the job halfway, like just cleaning the toilets or only cleaning the sinks. They may not clean the walls or the floors, or they may neglect to empty the trash containers. If you see this, you have hired a cleaning service that is not doing its job properly.

Instead of sending their own workers in to clean a business, a cleaning service may sometimes subcontract other workers to come in to the business and do the cleaning. When a cleaning company does this it is typically because they have spread themselves too thin by taking on too many jobs, and they are unable to do them all. Many times the subcontractors are not properly trained and have poor job skills. They may also steal from your business and unless you have a camera security setup, you might never know until it is too late.

Use your nose when you arrive at your office in the morning. If it still has a strong chemical smell, chances are that your cleaning service isn’t using the right cleaning products. They might even be using chemical cleaning products in the wrong places. If they use the same products for the bathrooms and the other parts of the office, cross-contamination can lead to a variety of health problems.

Language barriers can be another type of problem that businesses sometimes face with cleaning services. If your cleaning company has employees that cannot speak English, you may have a number of problems when trying to communicate your cleaning needs. Although it’s true that a business should not discriminate against anyone, if your cleaning service cannot understand your instructions, you have a problem.

If the head of your cleaning company is always on vacation, or not available to you when you need them, then you should change to another service. It isn’t fair to you to have to deal with these problems when there are so many other companies out there that will bend over backwards to make sure your office is clean and tidy just the way you like it. If you are having any of these problems, or any other that can’t be resolved, fire them.
