One of the latest great debates when it comes to Mormons is determining if their religion is Mormon or Christian or is one and the same thing. In the eyes of the Mormon the answer to that question is yes. There has been a great attempt in the last little while for the Mormons to stand on the grounds of Christianity more so than they have in the past.

To most of us it seems like the Mormons have been around forever. They actually date back to the 1820s. Understanding the Mormon church can be quite a difficult task because what seems to be on the surface is really not what it is when one starts to study it further. If one goes a little further to research this they will soon find that be are not considered as one and the same as Christian belief teaches but the Mormons believe they are three separate Gods.

There always seems to be a fair amount of confusion around the Mormon religion and church. Individuals often ask if they are considered as Protestants or Catholics or just what category do they come into. They come into neither one although however their founder Joseph Smith did have a Protestant background. The Mormons do not come into a category because they don’t fit the criteria of the Christianity doctrine. Although they are not Protestant they are definitely not Catholics either as their doctrine a strays even further from the Catholic doctrine.

There is no argument that the Mormons will not use the cross as a symbol of Christianity. What they will argue with is because of this it does not make them any less of being a Christian. It must be remembered that the early Christians did not use the cross as a symbol either and the answer to this is because the believer must look beyond the cross and to the resurrection. Emphasis should not be put on the suffering aspects but on the joy and promise of life.

If you have heard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints then you have heard about the Mormons. On the surface the Mormons will tell you that they do believe that Jesus is the savior of the world and they also believe in the Bible. So far up to now that doesn’t seem to be that quite unusual as to what many other religions believe. Where things start to change though is where some of their beliefs stem that Jesus appeared to their one time leader Joseph Smith. This was to have taken place in the 1820s.
