Vacation In The Australian Outback
The most simple way to visit the top tourist attractions in the Australian Outback is to drive thorough the 3000 km Stuart Highway. This road connects Adelaide in the south of the continent with Darwin on the north coast. The so-called Outback Capital, Alice Springs is halfway between Adelaide and Darwin.
Because of the great distances, there is no way to explore the Outback in a few days. However, those who don’t have much time should start their trip in Alice Springs, as there are many well-known tourist attractions near this city. If you want to see more than the famous Uluru, you should make time to visit the whole national park where Uluru can be found, Alice Springs Desert Park.
The most famous tourist attraction on the continent is Uluru (Ayers Rock), and this is why so many people visit Alice Springs. However, a lot of people will be surprised, because Uluru is not as close to Alice Springs as tourists will think. 450 km is close in terms of the Outback, but not for a European.
Those who spend some time in the Alice Springs area should also visit the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. It can be found only 50 km away from Uluru, so if you are at the Ayers Rock, you shouldn’t miss Kata Tjuta. The next great tourist attraction in the area is Wattarka – Kings Canyon. This is another national park, and if you want to visit, this means another 300 km trip from Uluru.
There are a lot of things to see in the Alice Springs area besides the top three tourists attractions. For those who have the time to explore the surroundings West MacDonnell Ranges and the East MacDonnell Ranges can be a good option, and Palm Valley, Hermannsburg, Chambers Pillar are also places to see.
If you are driving from Alice Springs to Darwin, you must prepare for a really long journey. Some people find the drive itself attractive. The great horizon, open space and ever changing landscape can be interesting. However, a lot of people complain because the drive can be also monotonous, with not much tourist attractions on the way.
One place to see is the Devils Marbles, 393 km north of Alice Springs. The next tourist attraction is 660 km away Mataranka, and from here it is only 105 km to Katherine and one of the most beautiful places in Australia: Katherine Gorge. Darwin is also a must-see for tourists visiting Australia: Kakadu National Park and Litchfield National Park are the favorite north Australian tourist attractions.
If you are driving to the south from Alice Springs, halfway on the trip to Adelaide is the opal mining town Coober Pedy. This place is very different from the other Australian tourist attractions: a lot of people love it, others hate it.
Then there is the Outback of the Australian Outback: the remote north-west territory. The Kimberley region is for those who seek adventure: this is the world of 4×4 wheel drive jeeps, with Broome and Kununura on the Great Northern Highway, the infamous Gibb River Road, waterfalls, rock pools, secret fishing spots, national parks and one of the world’s top 5 beaches.
