Key to Weight Loss Motivation – Positive attitude

The key to keeping up weight loss motivation is having a positive attitude. In fact, positive people are generally happier, worry less and more successful than negative people. Your chances of success greatly increases with a good attitude. Like in tennis, weight loss is 70% mental, 30% skill. So you have to pay attention to what to think mentally as much as what to eat, how to exercise, etc. With such a daunting task as weight loss, how can we remain positive?

Here are a few things you can try:

1) Smaller goals

Having easily achievable, shorter goals is one way to keep up motivation. Some examples could be: Ridding a bike to work for a day, or running 5 minutes longer on the treadmill than the last day, or being a vegetarian for a day. You have the idea. Smaller, shorter term goals allows us to be able to celebrate more frequently at the achievement of those goals. This gives a feeling progress that is needed keep high motivation.

2) Try easier, not harder.

Remember that losing weight is a decision that YOU made, not a mandate from someone else. It should not be a traumatic experience. Why suffer through it? If running four times per week is too difficult, then try doing only twice a week. And if that’s still too difficult then scale it to once a week or whatever you are comfortable with. Either way, you should feel good about doing something that is good for you. Push, but do not torture yourself. This way you can stay more positive about the whole experience and have less stress.

3) Finding support

Finding support from other people can also help to keep you positive and motivated. Having other people just knowing you are on a diet makes it feel like you are not doing this alone. There are many ways to find a support buddy. It could be a co-worker, friend, or family. There are lots of social websites that help link people to do activities together. You can also try joining some outdoor activity groups such as biking or hiking group.

So keep your head up and spirits high, and remember that a positive attitude is half the battle.
