St. Andrews is well known in Scotland because of its University. However the town has been very important since the 8th century because of the church. The town actually increased and grew around the cathedral. Today the famous cathedral only remains as ruins. St Andrews is also famous for its affiliate with golf. It has authority over the majority of the game played around the world and was supposedly the birthplace of the sport.

If you are visiting the area of Cumbria then the town of Penrith is worth a visit. Penrith is a market town that lies just outside the Lake District national park. The town was named for a nearby red hill, the red color being due to the local red sandstone. There is still a section of an old Roman road that can be visited as the Romans traveled frequently in this area.
